چکیده

We describe results of Monte Carlo simulations on a model that seems to have the necessary ingredients to describe a disordered type-II superconductor in a magnetic field. We compute the free energy cost to twist the direction of the phase of the condensate and analyze the results by finite-size scaling. The results show convincingly that the model has different behavior as a function of dimension: in d = 4 the model clearly has a finite transition temperature; Tc, while for d = 2 only there is only a transition at T = 0. Characteristics of lead glass for radiation protection purposes: A Monte Carlo study

Background: Lead glass has a wide variety of applications in radiation protection. This study aims to investigate some characteristics of lead glass such as the γ-ray energy-dependent mass and linear attenuation coefficients, the half-value layer thickness, and the absorbed dose distribution for specific energy. Materials and Methods: The attenuation parameters of different lead glass types aga...

The Vortex Glass

The recently proposed state of a disordered type-II superconductor in a magnetic eld, the \vortex glass", is discussed and compared with the \spin glass" transition in magnetic systems. We discuss the results of Monte Carlo simulations on a model that seems to have the necessary ingredients to describe this state, in two, three and four dimensions. The technique involves computing the free ener...

Vortex glass transition in a random pinning model.

We study the vortex glass transition in disordered high temperature superconductors using Monte Carlo simulations. We use a random pinning model with strong point-correlated quenched disorder, a net applied magnetic field, long-range vortex interactions, and periodic boundary conditions. From a finite size scaling study of the helicity modulus, the rms current, and the resistivity, we obtain cr...

Universal Susceptibility Variations in 1+1 Dimensional Vortex Glass

We model a planar array of fluxlines as a discrete solid-on-solid model with quenched disorder. Simulations at finite temperatures are made possible by a new algorithm which circumvents the slow glassy dynamics encountered by traditional Metropolis Monte Carlo algorithms. Numerical results on magnetic susceptibility variations support analytic predictions.

Unified phase diagram for the three-dimensional XY model of a point-disordered type-II superconductor

We carry out extensive Monte Carlo simulations of the three-dimensional uniformly frustrated XY model with uncorrelated randomly perturbed couplings, as a model for the equilibrium behavior of an extreme type-II superconductor with quenched uncorrelated random point vortex pinning, in the presence of a uniform applied magnetic field. We map out the resulting phase diagram as a function of tempe...
